Dufatanye Organization began as an association in 2003 and later became a Non-Governmental Organization in Rwanda. Initiated by Mr. Karema Godfrey who is the founder and the CEO, it is his vision to help the large number of people affected by malnutrition, HIV/AIDS, Genocide and poverty in the community.

This has been done through the Green Village of Hope Program where we construct kitchen gardens, carry out capacity building trainings, provide laying hens and fruit trees to every household within the village while teaching them smart climate resilient agricultural practices and saving skills.

​Dufatanye, which means “Join Together”, partners with other individuals and organizations to bring the vision to reality.

Dufatanye Organization was founded in 2015 under the law No. 20/200 on the 26th July 2000 which governs the Non-Profit Organizations in Rwanda.

In December 2016, it was legally registered with the Rwanda Government Board and received it’s permanent certificate (N0. 451/RGB/NGO/LP/03/2019).

Drilling of Two Boreholes, Construction of Concrete Slabs, and Supply & Installation of Hand Pump Systems

1. Background

Dufatanye Organization is a community-focused non-governmental organization committed to improving access to clean water, sanitation, and sustainable livelihoods in rural communities across Rwanda. Through its interventions, under the Village of Hope project, Dufatanye aims to reduce waterborne diseases, improve hygiene standards, and enhance the quality of life for vulnerable populations.

This project, titled “Village of Hope”, is implemented in partnership with the Suyana Foundation, an organization dedicated to supporting sustainable water access and community resilience initiatives globally.

Under this partnership, Dufatanye seeks to improve access to safe and reliable water sources in Nyanza and Nyaruguru Districts through the construction of boreholes equipped with hand pump systems.

2. Scope of Work

A. Borehole Drilling

1. Borehole Drilling (Nyanza District)

Site Location

  • Province: Southern Province
  • District: Nyanza
  • Sector: Rwabicuma
  • Location: Mubuga-Nyamiseke

Specifications

  • Number of boreholes: 1
  • Expected depth: 0m–100 meters (as determined by hydrogeological survey)
  • Diameter of drilling: 6”

Required Activities

  • Drilling (RIG MACHINE PRD SPD STALL)
  • Casing installation (125mm PVC)
  • Gravel packing (size 4.3mm of Gravel)
  • Well development (airlifting)
  • Test pumping (yield test maximum expected 1.5m³/h)

2. Borehole Drilling (Nyaruguru District)

Site Location

  • Province: Southern Province
  • District: Nyaruguru
  • Sector: Rusenge
  • Village: Mariba-Rusaniro

Specifications

  • Number of boreholes: 1
  • Expected depth: 0m–120 meters (as determined by hydrogeological survey)
  • Diameter of drilling: 6”

Required Activities

  • Hydrogeological survey (already completed)
  • Drilling (RIG MACHINE PRD SPD STAR)
  • Casing installation (125mm PVC)
  • Gravel packing (size 4.3mm of Gravel)
  • Well development (airlifting)
  • Test pumping (yield test maximum expected 1.5m³/h)

B. Construction of Concrete Slabs for 2 Boreholes

Purpose:

  • Borehole protection and pump base

Type:

  • Reinforced concrete slab

Typical Specifications:

  • Thickness: 100 mm
  • Diameter: 1.5–2 meters around borehole

Must Include:

  • Drainage slope extending 6 meters away from borehole
  • Soak pit or runoff channel
  • Protective apron to prevent contamination

C. Pump Supply & Installation

Pump Type:

  • Hand pump

Requirements:

  • Pump capacity aligned with borehole yield
  • Consideration of total dynamic head (depth + elevation)
  • Supply and installation of pipework (rising main)
  • Installation of all accessories (pump head, rods, cylinder, etc.)
  • Training of local users on pump operation and basic maintenance

3. Technical Specifications

The contractor must adhere to the following standards:

  • Drilling method: (rotary, percussion, or suitable method based on geology)
  • Casing material: uPVC (125 mm diameter)
  • Gravel pack: clean, washed gravel (4.3 mm size)
  • Concrete grade: C20/25
  • Compliance with Rwanda national water standards and international best practices
  • Proper sanitary sealing to prevent contamination

4. Deliverables

The contractor shall provide the following:

  • Borehole log (detailed geological profile)
  • Pump test results (yield, drawdown, recovery)
  • Water quality analysis report (physical, chemical, bacteriological)
  • As-built drawings
  • Operation & Maintenance (O&M) manual
  • Completion report including photos and GPS coordinates

5. Timeline

  • Mobilization: 1 week
  • Drilling (2 boreholes): 2–3 weeks
  • Slab construction: 1 week
  • Pump installation: 1 week

Total estimated project duration: 5–6 weeks

6. Qualification Requirements

Bidders must submit:

  • Proven experience in similar borehole drilling projects
  • List of equipment (drilling rig, compressors, support vehicles, etc.)
  • Qualified personnel (hydrogeologist, drilling engineers, technicians, companies )
  • At least 3 past project references with contact details
  • Company registration documents and tax clearance
  • Work plan and methodology

7. Clarifications

  • Dry Borehole Responsibility:
    The tender must clearly state whether the contractor or the client bears the risk and cost in case of a dry borehole.
  • Warranty Period:
    Minimum 12 months warranty on workmanship, materials, and installed pump system.

8. Additional Requirements

  • Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) plan must be submitted
  • Community engagement during implementation is required
  • Site restoration after works completion
  • Contractor must ensure minimal environmental impact
  • Compliance with local authority regulations
