3. TRAINING PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES

Purpose:
To equip professionals, graduates, and researchers with practical skills in R programming and statistical analysis, enabling them to perform robust data analysis and make informed, data-driven decisions.

Day 1 – Saturday, Nov 15: Getting Started with R & RStudio

  • Introduction to R programming environment and RStudio.
  • Basic syntax, operators, and data structures.
  • Hands-on exercises: vectors, lists, and data frames.

Day 2 – Sunday, Nov 16: Data Import & Transformation with tidyverse

  • Importing data from CSV, Excel, and databases.
  • Data cleaning, wrangling, and transformation using tidyverse.
  • Practical exercises: cleaning and preparing datasets for analysis.

Online Recap – Wednesday, Nov 19 (8:00 PM – 9:30 PM)

  • Review of Days 1–2 concepts and exercises.
  • Q&A session for clarification and additional practice.

Day 3 – Saturday, Nov 22: Data Visualization with ggplot2

  • Principles of effective data visualization.
  • Creating charts, plots, and dashboards in R.
  • Hands-on exercises: visualizing sample datasets.

Day 4 – Sunday, Nov 23: Statistical Analysis & Capstone Project Launch

  • Applying descriptive and inferential statistical methods.
  • Introduction and guidance for capstone project.
  • Hands-on exercises using real-world datasets.

Online Recap – Wednesday, Nov 26 (8:00 PM – 9:30 PM)

  • Review of Days 3–4 concepts.
  • Guidance and Q&A on capstone project submission.

8. LEAD TRAINER’S PROFILE
The training will be led by Dr. Lema Logamou Seknewna, a highly qualified researcher and data scientist with a PhD in Mathematics & Statistics. He currently serves as a Data Scientist at the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) Rwanda and a Statistician at the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda (NISR). Dr. Lema brings a rich and balanced approach to teaching—combining theoretical depth with practical, real-world application. He has successfully led numerous workshops across Africa, equipping professionals and students with hands-on skills in data analysis and statistical computing.
