Gabiro Agribusiness Hub Ltd is a fruit of joint venture Company established between the Government of Rwanda through its Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources (Majority shareholder) with Netafim Ltd, an Israeli company that offers global leadership in the agriculture manufacturing industry. Both parties signed a Joint Venture-JV and Engineering Procurement and Construction-EPC agreements on February, 23rd 2019 to initiate Gabiro Agribusiness Hub Project Phase I (5600/15600 Ha). The project shall cover Karangazi and Rwimiyaga sector, of Nyagatare district. Phase II of the project is expected to extend to both north and south parts of phase I reaching to Gatsibo District.

As the organization continues to expand its farming operations, GAH Ltd is seeking a dynamic, innovative, and results-oriented Demo Agronomist to support crop production planning, field management, agronomic practices, and productivity improvement within the Demo Farm.

About the Position

Job Title: Pumping Station Operator

Department: Infrastructure management and maintenance services.

Reports to: Electromechanical Chief engineer

Duty Station: Pumping Station(s) within the Irrigation Scheme

Number of positions: 6

1. Job Purpose

To operate, monitor, and maintain pumping equipment and related systems at irrigation stations to ensure efficient, safe, and continuous water supply to farms and investors. The Pump Operator ensures optimal pump performance, reports faults promptly, and supports preventive and corrective maintenance activities

2. Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor pumps, valves, control panels, and related electrical/mechanical systems.
  • Start, stop, and adjust pumping operations according to irrigation schedules and supervisor instructions.
  • Record operating parameters such as flow rate, pressure, voltage, current, and running hours in daily logs.
  • Check oil levels, cooling systems, bearings, seals, and vibration levels for abnormalities.
  • Detect and report leaks, unusual noise, overheating, or power fluctuations immediately.
  • Assist technicians during maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety around pumping units, control rooms, and valve chambers.
  • Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safety protocols at all times.
  • Support power and water consumption monitoring to ensure efficient energy use.
  • Participate in regular inspections, preventive maintenance, and shift handovers.

3. Qualifications and Experience

  • Technical Diploma (A2 ) or Advanced diploma( A1) in Electricity, Electromechanics or plumbing
  • Minimum 3 years of experience for Advanced diploma (A1) and 5 years for Technical diploma (A2) in operating water pumps, irrigation systems, or industrial utilities.
  • Having a valid driving license category A is mandatory
  • Knowledge of electrical controls, motor protection, and VFD operation is an added advantage.
  • Ability to interpret gauges, meters, and basic engineering drawings.
  • Physically fit and willing to work shifts, weekends, and outdoors.

4. Key Skills and Competencies

  • Strong attention to detail and safety awareness.
  • Basic troubleshooting and mechanical aptitude.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Record keeping and reporting discipline.
  • Understanding of irrigation systems and water management principles.

5. Working Conditions

  • Field-based role at pumping stations and reservoirs.
  • Rotational shifts (day/night) and standby duties during irrigation seasons.
  • Exposure to noise, water, heat, and electrical equipment (PPE is mandatory).
