JOB DESCRIPTION
Nursing Teacher (1)
Reports To: DIRECTOR OF STUDIES FOR A-LEVEL
1. Job Purpose
The Nursing Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality theoretical and practical nursing education to Associate Nursing Program (ANP) students in accordance with the National Examination and School Inspection Authority (NESA) curriculum and the regulations of the National Council of Nurses and Midwives (NCNM). The teacher supports students in developing nursing knowledge, clinical competencies, professional ethics, and critical thinking skills necessary for safe nursing practice.
2. Key Responsibilities
A. Teaching and Learning
- Teach nursing courses assigned under the Associate Nursing Program curriculum.
- Prepare schemes of work, lesson plans, teaching materials, and learning resources.
- Deliver learner-centred theoretical and practical lessons using competency-based teaching approaches.
- Integrate simulation and demonstration techniques into classroom instruction.
- Encourage critical thinking, evidence-based practice, and professional conduct among students.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, lesson delivery, and student progress.
B. Student Assessment and Academic Support
- Prepare continuous assessments, assignments, practical evaluations, and examinations.
- Assess and evaluate student performance in accordance with school and NESA policies.
- Provide constructive feedback and academic guidance to students.
- Identify students requiring additional academic support and implement appropriate interventions.
- Participate in examination moderation and marking activities.
C. Clinical Education Support
- Prepare students for clinical practice through pre-clinical demonstrations and simulation sessions.
- Collaborate with Skills Laboratory Teachers and Clinical Supervisors to ensure students achieve required competencies.
- Participate in monitoring students during clinical learning activities whenever assigned.
- Promote safe nursing practices and adherence to infection prevention and patient safety standards.
D. Quality Assurance and Compliance
- Ensure compliance with the Associate Nursing Program curriculum and institutional policies.
- Participate in curriculum review, departmental meetings, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Maintain confidentiality of student records and examination materials.
- Promote professionalism, ethical conduct, and respect for patients' rights.
E. Professional Development
- Participate in continuous professional development (CPD) activities.
- Maintain a valid professional practicing license.
- Keep abreast of current nursing education methodologies and evidence-based nursing practice.
F. Other Duties
- Participate in school meetings, committees, and extracurricular activities.
- Support student discipline, guidance, and mentorship.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Head of Department or school management.
3. Minimum Qualifications
Education
Applicants must possess:
- Postgraduate qualifications in Medical-Surgical Nursing, Critical Care and Trauma Nursing, or related fields with background in bachelor’s degree (A0) in Nursing from a recognised institution.
- A valid practising licence issued by the National Council of Nurses and Midwives (NCNM).
4. Professional Experience
Applicants should have:
- At least (5) years of clinical nursing experience.
- Experience in nursing education or clinical instruction in recognised institution is highly mandatory.
- Experience in competency-based education and student assessment is an added advantage.
- Experience using simulation-based teaching methods is preferred.
5. Required Skills and Competencies
The successful candidate should demonstrate:
- Excellent knowledge of nursing theory and clinical practice.
- Effective teaching and classroom management skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to prepare instructional materials and assessments.
- Sound clinical judgment and problem-solving skills.
- Good report writing and documentation skills.
- Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- High level of professionalism, integrity, and ethical conduct.
6. Required Documents

- Certified copies of academic degrees and transcripts.
- Copy of a valid NCNM practicing license.
- Copy of National Identity Card or Passport.
- Copies of relevant professional certificates.
- At least two professional references, in academic working experience/direct supervisor.
7. Employment Type
- Full-time.
- Initial contract period in accordance with Hope Haven Christian School Human Resource policies, subject to satisfactory performance during the probation period.

Hope Haven Christian School, Kigali, Rwanda.
9. Salary and Benefits
Salary and benefits shall be competitive and commensurate with qualifications, professional experience, and the school's remuneration policy.
