The University of Kigali is looking for Librarians(2 Positions)
Position Overview:
The University of Kigali (UoK) invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the position of Librarians who will be responsible for organizing, managing, and facilitating access to physical and digital resources within University Libraries.
Job duties and responsibilities
- Provide an excellent level of customer care to all library users and give them guidance and assistance.
- Keep work area clean, handle minor cleanups and report building or maintenance issues to management.
- Maintain organization within the library.
- Communicate effectively, professionally and courteously with both internal and external customers.
- Assist customers on using the library’s online catalog and different websites used by the library.
- Provide routine information and assistance to students, staff and other officials who use the library
- Set up and maintain the computer system for students to make use of the library resources and other services
- Assist library users to find resources like locating physical and electronic resources and other library materials such as research projects and periodicals
- Work at the circulation desk to check IN and OUT library materials
- Sort and shelve returned books and organize collections according to the library’s classification system
- Answer library user’s questions about library resources (physical and electronics)
- File and update library records
- Catalog newly acquired materials according to the library’s classification system
- Repair damaged library items
Professional Experience
- Work History: Candidates generally need to have a minimum bachelors’ Degree in Library/archives management and experience of 3-5 years of working within a college, university, or major research library.
Core Competencies and Skills
- Digital & ICT Proficiency: Advanced expertise in managing digital repositories, library software systems, and electronic resource databases.
- Strategic Planning: Proven ability to align library goals with the broader teaching, research, and knowledge-creation mission of the university.
- Administration: Strong skills in data analysis, policy implementation, and problem-solving under independent judgment
