Job Title: Faculty – Health Professions Education (HPE) Program & Head of Faculty Affairs

Employment Type: Full-Time

Contract Duration: Two-Year Fixed-Term Appointment

Reports To: Chair, Educational Development and Quality Center (EDQC)

Location: Kigali, Butaro- Rwanda

Position Overview

The Full-Time Faculty member will contribute to teaching, curriculum development, academic leadership, and scholarly activity within the Health Professions Education (HPE) program while providing institutional leadership for Faculty Affairs.This position strengthens teaching excellence and supports institutional systems that enable faculty performance, development, and engagement. The role requires an experienced educator with demonstrated expertise in higher education leadership, faculty development, and academic quality systems.

Key Responsibilities

1. Teaching and Academic Responsibilities (HPE Program)

  • Design, deliver, and evaluate assigned modules within the HPE program.
  • Facilitate learner-centered, evidence-informed educational experiences.
  • Supervise student projects, research, and scholarly work as assigned.
  • Provide academic advising, assessment, and formative feedback to learners.
  • Contribute to curriculum design, review, and continuous program improvement.
  • Support academic quality assurance and standards of monitoring.
  • Participate in academic governance and program committees.

2. Leadership of Faculty Affairs Office

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership for Faculty Affairs.
  • Lead faculty recruitment, onboarding, and retention processes.
  • Develop and implement faculty development and professional growth programs.
  • Oversee faculty performance evaluation, promotion, and career progression systems.
  • Support academic workload planning and faculty deployment.
  • Maintain institutional faculty records and ensure policy compliance.
  • Strengthen faculty mentoring, engagement, and academic community building.
  • Collaborate with academic leadership on workforce planning and capacity development.
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, and operational frameworks related to faculty affairs.

3. Scholarship and Educational Leadership

  • Engage in scholarly work in health professions education or faculty development.
  • Contribute to research, publications, and educational innovation.
  • Support institutional initiatives related to teaching excellence and academic leadership.
  • Represent the institution in academic and professional networks where appropriate.

4. Service and Institutional Contribution

  • Participate in institutional committees and governance structures.
  • Contribute to accreditation, quality assurance, and program review activities.
  • Support partnerships and collaborative initiatives related to education and faculty development.

Qualifications and Experience

Required

  • Doctoral degree (PhD, EdD, or equivalent) in Health Professions Education, Medical Education, Higher Education, or related field.
  • Preferable Bachelor
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching in higher education or professional education settings.
  • Experience in faculty affairs management, faculty development, or academic administration.
  • Strong knowledge of curriculum design, assessment, and educational quality assurance.
  • Evidence of scholarly activity or academic leadership.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

Preferred

  • Experience in postgraduate health professions education programs.
  • Experience in competency-based education, digital learning, or academic quality frameworks.
  • Experience working in diverse or resource-constrained educational environments.
  • Record of peer-reviewed publications or funded educational initiatives.

Contract Terms

This is a two-year fixed-term appointment, renewable subject to institutional needs and performance review. Performance will be reviewed annually in line with faculty evaluation policies.
