The King Faisal Hospital Rwanda Foundation is currently at its beginning stage following an action plan that was approved by the hospital in October, 2020.

Within the health domain, the Foundation’s major objectives will be to support researchers through funding, training and facilitation in dissemination of research data, establishing strategic relationships with academic, research-driven and research sponsoring institutions and supporting training for medical researchers.

As part of a social welfare that constitutes an integral part of the foundation, the hospital will financially assist patients who cannot afford medical care and will continue to sensitize the public on NCDs, congenital and surgical diseases for prevention and early consultation.

Furthermore, the foundation will support surgical camps/outreach within the country in a bid to reduce long waiting lists in teaching hospitals. Finally, within the education domain, the foundation will be promoting new learning tools including e-learning and support Continuing Medical Education (CME).

Job Description: Coordinator, Simulation and Clinical Skills Center

Organization: Africa Health Sciences University (AHSU)

Duty Station: Kigali, Rwanda (with travel to affiliated teaching hospitals)

Reports to: Chair of Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME)

Contract: 1 year, renewable based on performance of AHSU Sim Coordinator

Position Overview

The Coordinator will establish, lead, and manage the AHSU Simulation and Clinical Skills Center to support competency-based education for postgraduate medical training and future undergraduate health professions program. The role oversees simulation-based learning, clinical skills training, assessment, faculty development, quality improvement, and operational management of the Center.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead strategic planning, policy development, and governance of the Simulation and Clinical Skills Center.
  • Integrate simulation activities into competency-based curricula, Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs), and programme assessments.
  • Design, implement, and evaluate simulation scenarios and clinical skills training programmes.
  • Coordinate simulation-based assessments, including OSCEs and technical skills assessments.
  • Manage simulation laboratories, equipment, standardized patients, scheduling, and day-to-day operations.
  • Lead faculty development in simulation pedagogy, debriefing, assessment, and educational best practices.
  • Ensure quality assurance, patient safety, biosafety, ethical standards, and continuous improvement.
  • Prepare annual operational plans, budgets, utilization reports, and performance dashboards.
  • Promote simulation research, innovation, partnerships, and resource mobilization.
  • Support the development of future bioskills/wet laboratory facilities in line with institutional and regulatory requirements.
  • Other tasks assigned by the leadership

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medicine, Nursing, Anesthesia, Allied Health Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, Health Professions Education, or a related field.
  • A postgraduate qualification in Simulation, Health Professions Education, Clinical Education, Healthcare Management, or a related discipline is an added advantage.
  • Relevant experience in clinical education, simulation, programme coordination, or laboratory management.
  • Knowledge of competency-based education, assessment methods, biosafety, infection prevention, and quality improvement.

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree in health informatics, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Nursing, Public Health, or a related field. 
  • Experience using WHO Integrated Data Platform (WIDP), DHIS2 Tracker, REDCap, ODK, KoboToolbox, CommCare, Electronic Medical Records (EMR), or similar platforms. 
  • Previous experience in emergency care, acute obstetrics, disease surveillance, health registries, or multi-site health programmes. 
  • Experience supporting tablet configuration, synchronization, user account management, and multi-factor authentication.
