POSITION SUMMARY
AccessEnable is excited to welcome a passionate and creative Communication Intern to join our mission-driven team for three-month internship. In this hands-on role, you will play a key part in amplifying our impact by supporting internal and external communications efforts. You will contribute to compelling storytelling, content creation, social media management, and documentation of our transformative inclusive programs. This internship provides invaluable real-world experience in development communications, digital storytelling, and advocacy within a high-impact, purpose-led organization focused on disability inclusion and social equity.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the guidance of the senior team members, the Communication Intern will:
- Write, edit, and proofread engaging content for multiple platforms including social media, website updates, newsletters, blog articles, donor communications, and basic project reports, ensuring all content aligns with organizational messaging and tone.
- Capture and document project activities through quality photographs, short video clips, beneficiary success stories, meaningful quotes, and detailed event summaries to clearly demonstrate program impact and community outcomes.
- Support the design and production of simple but professional communication materials such as flyers, infographics, PowerPoint presentations, fact sheets, and briefing notes for internal and external audiences.
- Assist with the day-to-day management of social media platforms by scheduling posts, engaging with followers, responding to comments and messages, and tracking basic performance metrics under supervisor guidance.
- Support monitoring of media mentions and assist with simple analytics reports and audience insights to help improve communication strategies and outreach efforts.
- Provide flexible administrative and logistical support to program and operations teams as needed, including assisting with event coordination, data entry, preparation of materials, and stakeholder communication.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- Recent graduate or final-year student pursuing a degree in Communications, Journalism, Media Studies, Marketing, Public Relations, Development Studies, Information Technology, or a closely related field.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Kinyarwanda; proficiency in French is an added advantage.
- Solid familiarity with MS Office Suite or Google Workspace tools.
- Genuine passion for disability inclusion, inclusive education, youth empowerment, assistive technologies, and creating positive social change.
- Proactive, self-motivated attitude with strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and thrive in a collaborative team environment.
- Basic experience or strong interest in graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe), social media management, content creation, or photography/videography is highly desirable.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced startup with a commitment to ethical storytelling and safeguarding principles.

- Hybrid working arrangement based in Kigali, offering flexibility and collaboration.
