Project Title: Infrastructure for Sustainable Development at Rungano-Ndota Initiative

BACKGROUND
BENIMPUHWE is a local non-profit organization legally recognized in 1995. It is implementing various projects in 11 districts of Rwanda. The organization provides assistance to the vulnerable women, orphans and other vulnerable children and youth so as to improve their livelihood and sustain adequate living conditions.
BENIMPUHWE ORGANIZATION is implementing Rungano-Ndota project among others.
Rungano-Ndota Initiative (RNI) is an inclusive community that empowers youth from the poorest households to realize their full potential and overcome poverty. As part of our long-term strategy to create sustainable youth-focused ecosystems, we are planning an infrastructure investment in Ruhango District.
This facility will serve as a center for youth development, business incubation, and social innovation — offering a dynamic space where young people can build skills, launch ventures, and co-create solutions to community challenges. In addition to advancing RNI’s mission, the facility will also host income-generating activities that contribute to the financial sustainability of the organization, ensuring long-term impact beyond donor support.
Objective of the job
To support RNI in:
- Identifying income-generating opportunities aligned with the local economy
- Designing a sustainable business model with financial projections
- Recommending appropriate land and infrastructure investment options
- Supporting early-stage implementation, including identifying partners
Scope of Work & Key Responsibilities
The consultant will be responsible for:
- Conducting a market and economic assessment of Ruhango District to identify strategic business opportunities that can strengthen Rungano Ndota’s sustainability and expand its impact.
- Supporting the search and evaluation of land for construction
- Facilitating community consultations and engaging local stakeholders
- Developing a full business model that includes:
- Market and opportunity analysis
- Revenue generation strategy
- Costing and financial projections
- Risk and sustainability analysis
- Recommending qualified architects, contractors, and service providers
- Presenting findings and guiding early implementation decisions
Deliverables
- Inception report (methodology and work plan)
- Final business model with financial projections and stakeholder input
- Market and land assessment report
- Presentation to RNI team and board
- Final deliverables submitted in English
Working Conditions
- The consultant will work through a mix of remote engagement and scheduled field visits to Ruhango District, with opportunities to work from the Rungano Ndota office. Spending time in the office will support relationship-building with staff, which will be valuable for collaboration and understanding the local context more deeply
- Regular check-ins with the RNI Executive Director
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience in business analysis, market research, or infrastructure planning
- Experience working with NGOs or youth-focused programs is a strong advantage
- Strong knowledge of Rwanda’s economic context, especially Ruhango District
- Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and presentation skills
- Familiarity with construction or real estate sectors is a plus
