Truck Operator – Fixed term contract ( Till December 26th 2026)

World Vision is a child-focused Christian humanitarian organization implementing development programmes in 30 Districts of Rwanda. Our interventions in the strategic period of 2026-2030 seek to reach 2.5 million of the most vulnerable children. This is done through programming in Child Protection, and Education, Nutrition and WASH, and Poverty Alleviation (Resilience and Livelihoods).

World Vision Rwanda seeks to hire a qualified, dedicated and experienced nationals for the position of Truck Operator (one) for the UNHCR project. The position will be based in Mahama refugee camp, reporting to the Head of HEA & Disaster Risk Reduction Disaster Management.

Purpose of the position:

The truck operator facilitates the dislodging activity of latrines in different villages and quarters in the camp by ensuring safe transportation of sewerage & solid wastes and their final disposal to the dumping site, he/she also ensures UNHCR vehicles are maintained in a sound mechanical and clean condition. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITES

40% Operational activities are accomplished on regular basis
  1. Transportation of sewerage & solid wastes from various communities and the indicated places with respect to the safety of the refugees
  2. Collect solid waste from different garbage collection points in the camp and transport them to the dumping site
  3. Facilitate the dislodging activity of latrines in different villages and quarters in the camp
Planned activities in the garbage collection and dislodging of latrines are accomplished in a simplified manner of transportation from the camp to the dumping site
40% Maintaining vehicle safety, cleanliness and maintenance as required by fleet schedule
  1. To keep the vehicle safe and clean, and ensure it is serviced regularly according to schedule;
  2. Conduct major daily/ regular checks to ensure the vehicle is in a sound mechanical condition
  3. Fill logbooks and other vehicle-related forms
  4. Make fuel and service requests on time
  • Fleet & vehicle safety and cleanliness maintained on a regular basis according to the field requirements
  • Good information recorded which led to good internal tracking system in fleet management
20% Networking, Engagement and Collaboration
Commit to child protection policy, World Vision Rwanda profile and the code of conduct in refugee camps and neighboring communities. Organizational goals & core values of serving the children and poor communities achieved through partnership.
KNOWLEDGE/QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE ROLE
Required Professional Experience

The following knowledge, skills and abilities may be acquired through a combination of formal schooling, self-education, prior experience or on-the-job training:

  • Should have an advanced level certificate
  • Should have a category C driving permit, with experience in driving trucks with 10 Mt of capacity
  • Should have 3 years of experience in the same field
  • Knows local road rules and travel routes in Rwanda
  • Should be fluent in English, Knowledge of French is an added advantage and Kinyarwanda
  • Should be computer literate (Microsoft Word and Excel)
Required Education, training, license, registration, and certification
  • Should have an advanced-level certificate, preferably in mechanics or a related field
  • Should have a category C driving permit, with experience in driving trucks with 10 Mt of capacity
  • Must have proven analytical/problem-solving abilities.
  • Requires excellent interpersonal written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be fluent in English, both written and spoken. French is an added advantage
  • Identifies urgent and potentially difficult decisions and acts on them promptly; initiates and generates team- and department-wide activities.
  • Negotiate effectively by exploring a range of possibilities.
  • Must be a committed Christian, able to stand above denominational diversities.
  • Attend and participate in daily devotions.

  • Relevant working experience in refugee setting.
  • Ability to implement the project for the improvement of WASH project and child protection.
