About Us
Union Group (1989) Ltd is a Hong Kong-based international trading and distribution company with a growing focus on responsible sourcing and trading of critical minerals. We are establishing and scaling a dedicated trading operation in Rwanda centred on coltan and related 3T minerals (tantalum, tin and tungsten). The Rwanda business unit will handle supplier engagement, site oversight, logistics coordination, documentation and export to international customers, with full alignment to international responsible sourcing standards.
The Role
We are seeking an experienced local Operations Manager to take full operational responsibility for our Rwanda business unit. Working closely with our Hong Kong headquarters, you will oversee day-to-day activities on the ground — from supplier and miner liaison through to final export — ensuring smooth, compliant and efficient operations.
This is a role requiring strong local knowledge and a solid understanding of mineral trading, logistics and traceability requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with local suppliers, cooperatives and miners
- Oversee the full logistics process from mine gate to export, including coordination with transporters and warehouses
- Ensure all export documentation is complete, accurate and fully compliant with customer requirements and Rwandan export regulations
- Communicate and coordinate closely with freight forwarders and logistics service providers
- Oversee the shipping process and ensure cargoes are cleared and shipped out of Rwanda on schedule
- Identify and escalate operational, compliance or supply-chain risks promptly to headquarters
Requirements
- Rwandan national or permanent resident
- Proven experience in the Coltan / 3T minerals or broader mineral trading and mining sector in Rwanda or the East African region
- Strong practical understanding of mineral export procedures, documentation and logistics in Rwanda
- Working knowledge of OECD Due Diligence Guidance and ITSCI (or equivalent) traceability and responsible sourcing systems
- Demonstrated ability to liaise effectively with suppliers, miners, forwarders and local authorities
- Good working knowledge in English is required; proficiency in Kinyarwanda and/or French is a strong advantage
- Previous experience in operations, supply-chain or logistics management within the minerals sector is highly preferred
What We Offer
- Competitive remuneration package commensurate with experience
- Opportunity to play a central role in building a new business unit for an established Hong Kong trading company
