JOB DESCRIPTION – MUSIC TEACHER
Role Context
The Music Teacher is responsible for delivering engaging, high-quality music education that develops students’ creativity, performance skills, and appreciation of diverse musical traditions. The role supports both academic learning and holistic student development through classroom teaching, performances, and extracurricular activities.

Key Responsibilities
Curriculum Delivery
- Deliver structured lessons in music theory, performance, composition, and music appreciation
- Plan lessons aligned with curriculum objectives and student learning needs
- Integrate practical and theoretical music instruction
Student-Centered Instruction
- Use interactive and creative teaching methods (singing, instruments, group work, digital tools)
- Differentiate instruction to meet varied student abilities
- Encourage creativity, participation, and confidence in performance
Assessment and Feedback
- Design and conduct formative and summative assessments in music
- Track student progress and provide constructive feedback
- Maintain accurate records of student achievement
Classroom Management
- Create a positive, disciplined, and inclusive learning environment
- Ensure proper use and care of instruments and learning materials
- Promote respect, teamwork, and active engagement
Pastoral Care & Student Development
- Support students’ confidence, discipline, and emotional expression through music
- Encourage personal growth and creativity
- Work with school support teams when needed
Collaboration
- Work with colleagues on school performances and cross-curricular activities
- Participate in planning meetings and school initiatives
- Share best practices in music education
Extracurricular & School Activities
- Lead or support music clubs, choir, band, or ensembles
- Prepare students for concerts, assemblies, and cultural events
- Participate in school-wide events and activities when required
Professional Development
- Engage in continuous learning and training
- Stay updated on modern music teaching methods and tools
- Reflect on teaching practice and improve instructional quality
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Music Education, Music, Performing Arts, or related field
- Teaching qualification (preferred or required depending on school context)
- Minimum 3 - 5 years of teaching experience in music (school environment preferred)
- Strong knowledge of music theory, vocal training, and/or instrumental instruction
- Ability to lead performances, choirs, or ensembles
- Strong classroom management and student engagement skills
- Excellent communication skills in English (spoken and written)
Language Requirements
- English: Strong spoken and written English required for teaching, assessment, and reporting
- Ability to communicate effectively with students from diverse linguistic backgrounds
Performance Responsibilities
- Ensure measurable student progress in music skills and understanding
- Foster a positive and creative classroom environment
- Contribute to school performances and cultural programs
- Collaborate effectively with staff and contribute to school development goals
- Demonstrate continuous professional growth and reflective practice
Evaluation
The Music Teacher will be evaluated annually based on:
- Quality of instruction and student engagement
- Student progress and performance outcomes
- Contribution to extracurricular and school activities
- Collaboration with staff and professionalism
- Classroom management and alignment with school values
