Living Water Living Water International (LWI) is a faith-based non-profit organization that helps communities in developing countries to create sustainable water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) programs in response to the global water crisis. Living Water International has been operating in Rwanda since 2007.
LWI Rwanda is hiring for a role of The Finance Manager (FM) to leads all finance operations at the LWI Rwanda Country Office, ensuring strong financial systems, internal controls, and compliance with applicable legislation, LWI policies, and international best practices. The role provides strategic financial leadership, supervises finance staff, supports management decision-making through accurate reporting and analysis, and safeguards organizational financial and physical assets.
The position in located at Living Water International- Rwanda Country Office in Kigali.
Key/Major responsibilities:
- Financial Reporting & Accounting
- Prepare accurate and timely monthly financial reports in line with the Chart of Accounts, accounting checklists, and finance procedures.
- Ensure proper recording of accruals, payroll entries, depreciation, and prepayments.
- Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations and ensure complete supporting documentation.
- Review journal entries and accounting records for accuracy and completeness.
- Produce monthly burn rate, budget vs. actual, and accrual reports for Senior Management.
- Ensure significant variances are analyzed, explained, and accompanied by recommendations.
- Budgeting & Financial Planning
- Support the Country Director in preparing the annual country budget with realistic estimates.
- Enter and maintain approved budgets in the financial system.
- Monitor expenditures against approved budgets and disbursement plans.
- Lead preparation of Program Generated Revenue (PGR) budgets.
- Advise management on financial performance, risks, and corrective actions, particularly regarding deficits.
- Internal Controls & Compliance
- Lead the implementation and enforcement of LWI financial controls and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with cash disbursement, procurement, and financial management policies.
- Review procurement documentation, contracts, and committee minutes prior to payment processing.
- Ensure readiness for internal and external audits with minimal findings.
- Maintain effective internal control systems to safeguard financial and property resources.
- Develop and review country-specific finance manuals, procedures, and internal memos.
- Asset & Inventory Management
- Maintain accurate asset and property registers in collaboration with the Finance Assistant.
- Review monthly inventory reports.
- Supervise quarterly physical stock counts and asset verification, including disposals.
- Ensure proper financial filing systems are maintained.
- Team Leadership & Capacity Building
- Supervise and support finance staff, ensuring quality and compliance in their work.
- Conduct performance reviews in line with LWI timelines.
- Support staff development, training, and leave planning.
- Provide ongoing training and technical guidance in financial management.
Minimum job requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
- Fully qualified CPA certification.
Experience
- Minimum of five (5) years’ professional experience in finance or accounting.
- Experience supervising and supporting staff.
- Experience working with international organizations, preferably in a developing country.
- Proven experience in budgeting, cash flow management, and financial planning.
- Experience using accounting systems and preparing narrative and financial reports.
Skills
- Advanced computer skills (Microsoft Office, accounting software).
- Proficiency in QuickBooks.
- Strong analytical, reporting, and financial management skills.
