Greater Virunga Transboundary Collaboration is a Mechanism for strategic, transboundary, collaborative management of the Greater Virunga Landscape. Set up by ICCN, RDB and UWA with their partners in the region, it started with ranger collaboration to protect mountain gorillas in Mgahinga, Bwindi, Virunga and Volcanoes NPs in 1991. Later it has expanded in scope (tourism, community conservation and research and monitoring). The area also now extends to central and north Virunga (DRC), Queen Elizabeth, Rwenzori Mountains and Semuliki NPs (Uganda). The Executive Secretariat sits from 2008 in Kigali to coordinate and link stakeholders on behalf of the Protected Area Authorities.

VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The Greater Virunga Transboundary Collaboration Executive Secretariat (GVTC-ES) is seeking to recruit a qualified and motivated individual to join its team as a Finance and Administration Assistant. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a dynamic intergovernmental organization dedicated to collaborative wildlife conservation and tourism development across the Central Albertine Rift.

Job Title: Finance and Administration Assistant

Location: GVTC Executive Secretariat, Kigali, Rwanda

Reports to: Deputy Executive Secretary – Finance and Administration (DESFA)

Organizational Context

The GVTC-ES is established under the GVTC Treaty (2015), bringing together the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, and Uganda to manage the Greater Virunga Landscape. The Secretariat leads regional efforts in conservation and sustainable tourism across national borders, contributing to biodiversity protection and economic development.

Key Responsibilities

The Finance and Administration Assistant will be responsible for supporting GVTC-ES in the areas of finance, administration, procurement, and fleet management. Key duties include:

  • Verifying financial reports and preparing bank reconciliations
  • Managing procurement and inventory systems
  • Coordinating logistics for travel, events, and meetings
  • Administering office records, supplies, and correspondence
  • Monitoring fleet usage, maintenance, and documentation
  • Preparing compliance and operational reports

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field
  • 2–5 years of experience in a similar role, preferably with an international organization
  • Knowledge of donor-funded projects, IFRS/IPSAS standards, and financial systems such as Sun System
  • Proficiency in English and French is required
