Rutongo Mines Ltd is a Tin Mining Company, situated in Masoro Sector, Rulindo District, Northern Province. The Management of Rutongo Mines Ltd informs the public that it is recruiting Internal and External Competent, Qualified and Experienced staff for the following positions: 

  • Position / Job Title: Bobcat Operator
  • Grade: C1
  • Department: Mining
  • Reports To: Mine Supervisor 
  • Assigned To: Underground or Surface Mining Operations 

Job Brief: The Bobcat Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of bobcat/skid steer equipment to support underground and surface mining activities. The role involves loading, hauling, stockpile management, material handling, cleaning operational areas, road maintenance, and assisting mining crews in daily production activities. The Bobcat Operator is responsible for conducting pre-operational inspections, maintaining safe operating practices, reporting equipment defects, and ensuring assigned tasks are completed efficiently and safely in compliance with company operational and SHEC standards:

Key Responsibilities:

The Bobcat Operator has the following responsibilities and duties:

  • Ensure the bobcat is operated safely so as not to injure anyone or cause damage to company property. 
  • Ensure the machine is always in good working condition. 
  • Clean inside and outside mining tunnels using the bobcat. 
  • Carry out basic cleaning of the bobcat machine. 
  • Follow track signaling, safety rules, and speed instructions of the company. 
  • Report any bobcat-related issues to the Mining Team Leader. 
  • Make minor repairs when necessary and support basic maintenance activities. 
  • Record daily reports of completed tasks, machine condition, and operational activities. 
  • Be punctual and ensure timely execution of assigned tasks. 
  • Always remain vigilant during operations. 
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures. 
  • Perform any other duties related to the role as assigned by Management. 

Job Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Minimum of Secondary School Certificate or TVET qualification. 
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience operating a bobcat or similar heavy equipment. 
  • Experience in mining, quarrying, or construction is an advantage. 

Certifications

  • Valid Category F Driving Licence (mandatory). 
  • Bobcat or heavy equipment operator certification is an added advantage. 

Technical Skills

  • Ability to safely operate bobcat equipment. 
  • Basic understanding of machine inspection and minor maintenance. 
  • Knowledge of workplace safety procedures and operational discipline. 
  • Ability to complete simple operational reports. 

Soft Skills

  • Strong work ethic and responsibility. 
  • Punctuality and good time management. 
  • Good communication and teamwork skills. 
  • Positive attitude and willingness to follow instructions. 
  • High level of vigilance during operations. 

Physical Requirements

  • Physically fit to work in underground and surface mining environments. 
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, dusty areas, and varying weather conditions. 

Other Requirements

  • Willingness to work overtime, shifts, weekends, and public holidays when required. 
  • Commitment to safety and operational discipline.
