Job Summary:

The Ready-Mix Concrete Plant Division Manager at Shelter Group Africa is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the batching plant, ensuring efficient production, delivery, and sales of high-quality ready-mix concrete. The role includes managing staff, maintaining equipment, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards, developing client relationships, and driving sales performance.

Key Responsibilities:

Plant Operations:

  • Manage all activities of the concrete plant including batching, production, maintenance, and dispatch.
  • Optimize production efficiency while minimizing downtime and costs.
  • Monitor stock levels of raw materials and ensure timely procurement.
  • Maintain accurate production logs and operational reports.

Sales & Business Development:

  • Develop and implement strategies to grow ready-mix concrete sales in Rwanda.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities in construction and infrastructure sectors.
  • Prepare and follow up on quotations, contracts, and tenders for concrete supply.
  • Work closely with the Shelter Group Africa commercial team to achieve monthly sales targets.

Customer Relations:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for key clients and project managers.
  • Ensure prompt delivery of concrete and address customer concerns with professionalism.
  • Conduct client visits and site inspections to assess needs and gather feedback.
  • Build and maintain long-term relationships with clients to enhance customer retention.

Staff Management:

  • Supervise batching plant personnel including operators, drivers, and maintenance workers.
  • Plan work schedules, monitor attendance, and conduct performance evaluations.
  • Provide ongoing training and mentoring to improve staff capability and motivation.

Equipment & Maintenance:

  • Oversee preventive and routine maintenance of plant equipment and delivery vehicles.
  • Ensure all equipment is calibrated and operating within required specifications.
  • Keep maintenance logs and coordinate with technical support when needed.

Quality Assurance:

  • Ensure all concrete mixes meet project specifications and quality control standards.
  • Work with the Quality Control team to monitor batching accuracy and testing results.
  • Investigate and resolve any product complaints or non-conformance issues.

Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance:

  • Promote and enforce Shelter Group’s safety policies and procedures.
  • Conduct regular HSE training, risk assessments, and toolbox talks.
  • Ensure plant operations comply with national environmental and regulatory guidelines.

Reporting & Compliance:

  • Submit weekly and monthly reports on production, sales, and operational performance.
  • Maintain documentation for audits, safety inspections, and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in ready mix concrete plant operations, with 2+ years in a leadership or managerial role.
  • Strong knowledge of concrete production processes, mix design, and construction industry standards.
  • Proven track record in sales and customer relationship management.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and batching plant management systems.
  • Familiarity with the Rwandan construction sector is an added advantage.
  • Fluent in English; proficiency in Kinyarwanda and/or French is a plus.
